Thanks for the coffees

Do you remember when Peter Jastermsky and Bryan Rickert paid us a visit?

Peter and Bryan’s podcast introducing me to split sequences was really popular and so Peter and I wanted to do a workshop for you. Eventually Peter and I were able to align our diaries and record it for you. That’s today’s podcast.

Submissions March 2023

Split sequences from March 16th to March 31st.

Haiku & Senryu from March 1st to March 15th reimagining poetry submission. You have until the 15th.

We love to read your work, but to increase your chances of  acceptance, do have a listen to the podcasts, read the shownotes… there are lots of examples of work that we’ve accepted on there and critically read the submission guidelines.

Which reminds me have you had a look at our YouTube prompt for March yet, written your haiku / senryu and put them in the comments. It’s another way to get your work featured in the Journal and the Podcast.

Tia Haynes editor of Prune Juice said of this book that it is nothing short of a masterpiece. Bold yet intimate, these visionary poems are pure magic. With intricate dynamics and seamless transitions, it is clear that Rickert and Jastermsky are not only masters of their craft but also a powerhouse team. A must-read!

The Bargain

after hours

Satan’s holiday
mixing stripes
with plaids

unwrapping the stars

sharpened stake
poking through
a new thesaurus

where they fall

die laughing
we will
when we want to

Peter Jastermsky, MacQueen’s Quinterly, 2021

Tin roof, rusted

no regrets

yellow pus
splatters the looking glass
sing me a love song

the pillow knows

blues in the night
streaks of mascara
tell the truth

i’m lying

sanguine moon
the second trimester
becomes the third
